Extension & Alterations to Gazen Salts Cricket Pavilion

An existing changing pavilion servicing the council-run football and cricket pitches at Gazen Salts in Sandwich. Now leased by Sandwich Town Cricket Club to provide additional wickets for their growing number of teams and during the winter to provide some income to the club from leasing the football pitches.

The project was to add a single-storey socialising space to the front of the existing pavilion incorporating a kitchen and a patio and covered area to the front with serving hatch from the kitchen to outside. In addition to this, some alterations were made to the existing changing areas and a full refurbishment of the building. Additional works required by the client centred around existing drainage repairs and some plumbing upgrading.
The build was a steel frame over a ground bearing slab and block and brick cavity wall infills. The steel frame was required to support the large span roof structure which was pitched to match the existing roof which had its span supported on the many internal walls forming the changing rooms. Obviously, in forming a large open space it was not practical to utilise internal walls, hence the steel frame.

Completed the area was light and airy, and to quote members “A very usable pavilion had been created”. The project completed on time for the cricket season and was built to a strict budget and to the satisfaction of all concerned including our own staff and management team.
