Safeguarding Improvements Project at a Primary School

Project Overview

The Safeguarding Improvements Project at Selling Primary School involved a comprehensive programme of works designed to strengthen security and safeguarding across the school site.

The works included a new secure perimeter, upgraded fencing and gates, controlled pedestrian and vehicle access, new access control and CCTV systems, improved external lighting, and associated landscaping and ecological works.

Scope of Works

A major element of the project was the creation of a secure perimeter using new welded mesh security fencing, privacy fencing and upgraded boundary treatments. New pedestrian and vehicle gates were installed at key access points, incorporating secure locking, self-closing mechanisms and controlled access where required.

A new Paxton Net2 access control system was installed, incorporating video intercoms, proximity readers, keypad entry, staff access fobs and associated power and communications infrastructure. The school’s CCTV system was also upgraded to improve surveillance across key areas of the site.

External safety improvements included 15 low-level light fittings along the lower car park access route, together with new line marking and safeguarding signage to improve pedestrian routes and segregation.

Project Delivery

The works were programmed and carried out during the school summer holidays, while the school was closed to pupils. This provided a defined construction window in which to complete the safeguarding improvements and required careful planning, coordination and programme management to ensure the site was ready for the start of the new school term.

The project also incorporated asbestos management measures and arboriculture and ecological works, including vegetation clearance, specialist monitoring and replacement tree and hedge planting where required.

Completion & Outcome

All new fencing, gates, access control, CCTV and lighting installations were tested and commissioned, with affected surfaces and landscaped areas reinstated ahead of the school’s reopening.

The completed project provides Selling Primary School with a coordinated safeguarding solution combining secure perimeter fencing, controlled access, CCTV surveillance and improved external lighting, strengthening security across the school site.
