The existing property was a detached residential dwelling located with a collection of structures that historically formed a farm setting. The existing dwelling is a barn conversion that was converted in 1989. The original barn provided storage for the Farmhouse.

PA Hollingworth were employed to convert the garage from a storage space to a utility room and lobby together with the re-ordering of existing internal walls within the converted building to create an open living/kitchen area, replacement of all new door and windows and addition of roof lights.

A scaffold temporary roof was erected over the property whilst we dismantled the roof structure and rebuilt following the redesign to form a vaulted ceiling space throughout the remodelled section of the barn. Internally the Works also included all associated new Electrical and mechanical services including a new heating system through the barn. A bespoke-built birch ply kitchen and utility room were installed within the new space and the birch ply theme was extended throughout the barn for ceiling and wall cladding.

This project was particularly challenging as the homeowner occupied part of the barn outside the site boundary whilst the work was carried out. Our client was very patient and understanding living within the building during the project, they went several months with a temporary kitchen and living space that we set up for them at the start of the project.

We worked closely with a specialist architect, Urban and Rural, to achieve this outstanding finish:

“Urban and Rural obtained planning and listed building consent to transform this previously converted outbuilding into a stunning bespoke space.
With a larger, relocated entrance area, vaulted ceiling, underfloor heating and bespoke fitted joinery. We worked in close collaboration with our clients who had very clear ideas about the look they wanted us to create for them and we are blown away by how well it turned out for them. Urban and Rural worked with P.A. Hollingworth to negotiate a tender price and construction program on our client’s behalf and we administrated the formal building contract through to completion on site. Hats off to Ashely Hollingworth for delivering such a complex little scheme and a special mention to Alex Thomas at Chartwood Design who made the kitchen, timber panelling and interior doors and Andrew Jaynes who supplied the External Doors and Windows.
This, like all our projects, is a real team effort and without the expertise and input from everyone involved, we wouldn’t be able to turn our ideas into reality. Thank you all for another scheme that we can be immensely proud to share.”
